Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) students at Portland Secondary College (PSC) have received some welcome recognition for their outstanding achievements in sustainability.
Their efforts to plant shrubs, host information days and lead workshops throughout the year has led to the school being named as a finalist in state-wide sustainability awards.
In total there were 159 schools that entered this year’s ResourceSmart Schools Awards with PSC being named one of three finalists in theBiodiversitySchoolof the Year category.
VCAL personal development class teacher Ann-Maree Burgoine said she was really proud of the student’s efforts during the class’s Understory Project.
“The project has been running since 2005, and each year we ask the students to raise the bar…this year they really did respond, which is demonstrated by this fantastic achievement,” Ms Burgoine said.
