DESPITE her loss of central vision, Bianca Goebel still enjoys photography, especially from her cliff-top home near the Portland golf course. No other photograph was chosen for the 2013 calendar.
A DRAMATIC image of the sun breaking through dark clouds at dawn overPortlandBayhas given local woman Bianca Goebel the honour of a place in VisionAustralia’s 2013 calendar.
“I live near a cliff and I like to go walking in the mornings,” Ms Goebel said. “It was a dark and stormy morning at sunrise, and one shaft of light was breaking through the gloom, so I took the picture.
“When I first heard the message on my phone that I had been selected to appear in the calendar, I kept replaying it and crying. It was such an honour to be recognised for something and it gave me a sense of fulfilment,” she said.
Ms Goebel has myopic macular degeneration.
“As I result I take out my contact lenses when taking photos and am almost kissing the screen to try and see the photo,” she said.
