
RYANS of Portland? The company hopes the old Holden dealership site can be transformed into a depot to support its international customers that move through the port.
THE old Holden dealership site which has been vacant since March could be transformed into a truck depot for Warrnambool-based freight company Ryans.
The company lodged a planning permit application with the Glenelg Shire Council last Friday after meetings with senior management but the application is currently unavailable to the public.
General manager Graham Ryan is optimistic the proposal for the Learmonth St site will be welcomed by the Portland community despite some neighbours being apprehensive about a truck depot on their street.
“We already move all the aluminium for the smelter and we do pulp for another business, we’ve been serving the town since my father came here 60 years ago,” Mr Ryan said.
