PORTLAND is set to have a $1 million state-of-the-art ambulance station operating within the next nine months.
Work on demolishing the old station is expected to start before Christmas .
Ambulance Victoria Portland team manager Aaron McKindley said Portland-based firm England Building Co Pty Ltd had secured the contract for the project.
He said the change in the roster at the station 18 months ago was the trigger for the new station.
The change included going from an at-call station to a 24 hour operation and an increase in the number of paramedics.
“We are definitely looking forward to the new station — everything will be under one roof instead of having two separate buildings at the New Stsite,” he said.
