PEOPLE are being urged to share the spirit of giving by buying Christmas trees from volunteer organisation the Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES).
Members of the Portland SES unit work on a plot of pine trees throughout the year in order to sell the traditionally shaped trees of various sizes.
Deputy unit controller Joy Nowakowski said members plant the trees and then keep the area free of weeds and prune the trees before some are felled for selling.
The annual tree sales are the major fundraiser for thePortlandunit, with a Nissan Patrol recently bought from those funds supplemented by community donations.
The new 4WD replaced a 10-year-old vehicle that the group traded in, with a change-over price of $40,000.
