A FIREWORKS operator has been confirmed for Hamilton’s New Year’s Eve celebrations – but one local electrician believes he should have been chosen, after giving so much to the community in the past.
Southern Star will carry out the fireworks this year, after presenting an “exciting and professional proposal”.
However fellow electrician, Jason Shepherd told The Spectator he was frustrated by the way the Southern Grampians Shire had gone about the process.
“I put my heart and soul into reviving the town’s New Year’s celebrations and devoted weeks of my time for the good of the community but the council has shown no loyalty for what I’ve done for the town,” he said.
Shire events marketing manager, Diane Barrera said Southern Star was chosen after a competitive process because they were supported by excellent references, a commitment to quality and safety procedures, as well as insurance.
The fireworks are expected to be held at Melville Oval on December 31, just before 10pm.
