HAMILTON’S service stations have been hit by Victoria’s diesel shortage, with only one major outlet selling to general customers at the time of publication.
The current diesel shortage is being blamed on a fault at the Shell oil refinery at Geelong.
About 63 per cent of Victoria’s fuel production takes place at the Geelong Refinery, with the remainder produced at a second plant at Altona.
Robco Petroleum and Scott Petroleum both ran out of diesel over the weekend, but on Monday morning they were waiting for a delivery that was due shortly; both had ‘out of order’ signs on their bowsers at time of going to press.
Caltex Woolworths was running low on diesel and Shell Coles was only selling to emergency vehicles on Monday morning.
BP was still selling diesel as normal as of Monday morning and service stations are putting up signs to inform customers about the availability of diesel.
