THE Country Fire Authority is looking for land to build a new Portland fire station to accommodate more staff.
The current fire station, located at 125 Percy St, is limited in size and can accommodate only one leading firefighter at a time.
The new station will be designed accommodate at least three firefighters for each shift.
CFA District Four operations manager Peter Novotny said the construction of a newPortlandstation was recommended in a CFA inquiry following Black Saturday.
Portland operations officer Gary Harker said that, despite the recommendation for a larger site, the Portland brigade is adequately staffed and equipped.
“We have 35 active firefighters supported by a leading firefighter and myself as the operations officer in charge; the station isn’t undermanned.”
Mr Harker said the new station would be built to accommodate a 1014 roster system, tripling the man power for each shift.
