THIS time of year is notoriously busy and, while many local businesses are enjoying the summer rush,Portland’s Daly’s Supa IGA supermarket is unfortunately missing out on the most profitable period.
However, store manager Nathan Lovell said they are not focusing on this loss, but rather on making sure everything is right to go so that they can reopen before the end of January.
The supermarket was gutted by fire in the early hours of April 29 last year, and it has been a lengthy process for the business to rise again, like a phoenix, from the ashes.
“We are all go at the moment finishing off the store. Stock will begin to arrive at the end of this week and the new staff are beginning their training.”
“It’s hard to really know how much business has been lost by not being open during this period, but I would say in the hundred’s of thousands if not a million dollars. To me this year seems really busy; maybe last year was a quiet year.”
