CHANGE is in the air at Hamilton Racing Club with manager, John Donnelly, lumbering towards the finishing post.
Far too passionate about the club to throw in the towel completely, Mr Donnelly will pass on responsibilities to a new manager and edge his way into retirement.
“I’m happy to walk into the sunset, or at least start walking towards the sunset,” he said.
A racing enthusiast since day dot and manager ofHamilton’s club for a decade, Mr Donnelly has had to accept that pure passion is not enough to keep racing alive.
Like most country clubs,Hamiltonhas struggled in recent years and is on the look out for a marketing genius to revive the ‘day at the races’ that was once such a huge part of the town’s social calendar.
