CUTS to Hamilton’s mental health crisis care are looming and could see after-hours care removed or dramatically changed, following financial pressures on South West Healthcare.
The 24-hour emergency response service operates inHamilton,Portlandand Camperdown, with a dedicated caseworker assigned for each town – but claims have surfaced that the vital after-hours service will be cut.
While South West Healthcare’s mental health director, Caroline Byrne, did not rule out potential cuts, she assured the community that either way, there would be no difference to the current service.
Shadow health minister, Daniel Andrews, revealed the possible cuts, with Western Victoria MP, Jaala Pulford saying it was a farcical situation that could lead to serious safety concerns across the region.
