TEACHERS across the district will be joining tomorrow’s state-wide Australian Education Union (AEU) strike as part of the ongoing pay dispute with the State Government.
Despite negotiations last week, a resolution has not been reached between the government and AEU Victorian branch regarding teacher pay and conditions.
Heywood and District Secondary College principal Glenn Kane said that, although Year 7 students would have a normal program tomorrow, Years 8 to 12 had been asked to remain home because the majority of the school’s teachers were supporting the strike action.
A Portland Secondary College spokeswoman said a number of teachers had indicated intentions to support the strike, but details of how many and which classes would be affected by the strike weren’t available prior to going to print.
Portland North Primary School principal Don Nelson said all classes would be affected tomorrow, with all teachers and some support staff joining the strike.
Bolwarra PS will be supporting the strike and all classes have been asked not to attend school tomorrow, according to principal Lee Gibbons.
There will be no classes at Narrawong District PS either, according to principal Carolyn Silva, who said the school community was very supportive of the action.
