WHILE most of us were enjoying the last hours of sleep before mundane Monday, Mirranatwa residents were woken by authorities and told to make a decision: Fight or flight.
Farmers were up well before the sun, moving stock into bare paddocks and hundreds of volunteers left work or abandoned their businesses to assist on the fire ground.
Mirranatwa Hall, chosen as the staging point for briefings and meals, was packed with CFA members, Victoria Police, Southern Grampians Shire workers, DSE firefighters and local residents on Monday.
Iris Field, of Victoria Valley Rd and local art studio owner, Ros McArthur, were on duty, running hot breakfasts to the busloads of new arrivals.
