A PORTLAND business operator has taken the fight online to tackle the alarming recent trend of local business closures.
Tim Black, or ‘Tim the Tarp man’ as he is known, has created a Facebook page called Save Portland Month in an effort to help the local economy.
Mr Black, who owns Australian Tarps & Blinds that has a warehouse in Portland, said the page was aimed at helping to kick start a successful month for Portland businesses during April.
The lead-up campaign officially starts today with Mr Black hoping the page will attract postings of special offers to boost business in April.
“I was sick of all the negativity so I created the page in the hope that it could promote local businesses and get a bit of positive talk happening around the town,” Mr Black said.
The page went online Tuesday morning and, in less than 24 hours, it had received 200 “likes” indicating a strong level of support from the community.
Mr Black said the page was for both consumers and businesses to share details of good experiences, service and deals they had received or were offering around the area.
