THE “world game” is set to establish a true presence on the Hamilton sporting landscape.
In a significant development, the sport of soccer has been given its own identity in Hamilton.
The announcement by Minister for Sport and Recreation, Hugh Delahunty, in Hamilton last Friday that the State Government would commit funding for a new soccer field was met with overwhelming excitement.
Mr Delahunty announced funding of $100,000 for a new soccer field with lighting, a new cricket oval and two multi-use fields at Pedrina Park in Hamilton.
The funding will complement the Southern Grampians Shire Council’s contribution of over $197,000 and a generous donation by a local benefactor of $200,000 to allow this $497,000 project to commence.
Hamilton Soccer Club president Julie Pickering described it as “a fantastic day” for soccer.
