A DIFFICULT growing season has not impacted on the quality of fleeces at this year’s Hamilton and District Legacy Annual Fleece Show.
Judges David Whyte, from Elders, and Richard Edgar, from Arcadian Wool Brokers in Geelong, said last Friday’s show attracted a large number of entries, particularly in the fine and medium wool sections.
“Across the range, fleece weights were down, however the fleeces were high-yielding, with particularly good tensile strength,” they said.
“All sections showed excellent examples of their particular breed.”
J. and L. Young, of Eulong, produced the champion fleece of the show with an 11.1kg entry, which according to judges, “displayed superb characteristics of its type, being long, white and very stylish, showing great depth of crimp and softness of handle”.
The fleece scored an aggregate 92.5 points.
