THE Cavendish community has welcomed the official re-opening of a heritage trail, the Settlers’ Walk.
Minister for Sport and Recreation and Lowan MP, Hugh Delahunty, joined the community and Southern Grampians Shire representatives at a ribbon cutting ceremony in the township on Sunday to re-launch the heritage trail dedicated to the solider settlers.
“It’s fantastic that the Settlers’ Walk is being officially re-opened and we can now view the heritage trail in its entirety,” Mr Delahunty said.
“The Settler’s Walk brings our past back to life via stories on plaques placed along the trail.
“It reminds us all of the contribution of pioneers who acquired land under the Soldier’s Settlement Scheme in Cavendish.”
The project was co-ordinated by the Cavendish RSL Sub Branch and the Cavendish Townscape Association.
