THE proposed merger of the Casterton and Sandford football-netball clubs will be finalised next weekend and the decision couldn’t come quick enough as far as the Casterton players are concerned.
The bitter dispute between factions at both clubs that are for and against the merger has been responsible for some nasty and misinformed information being spread throughout the community by the anti-merger faction.
The dispute between some people at the two clubs dates back decades and many of today’s players and members have no idea of the history behind the disagreement (s).
Perhaps these people should take some take a look at themselves and consider the following quote from Herman Melvlle: “But the past is passed; why moralize upon it? Forget it. See, yon bright son has forgotten it all, and the blue sea, and the blue sky; these have turned over new leaves”.
All of this has created angst among the players who are there simply to play football and not get involved in the club politics being played out by some old-timers that may have an axe to grind with the Sandford club.
Senior coach Dylan Ayton said the players want the situation resolved as soon as possible.
“We have been training three nights a week for several weeks and have been getting some good numbers,” he said.
“We have been averaging about 30 at each session and, hopefully, we will get up to 40 this week.
“All those that have been here will be pushing for senior selection, but we have had some of the younger players along as well.”
