ALEXANDRA House’s Lauren Tuckey has come second in the Victorian UGLY bartender of the year competition.
UGLY stands for Understanding, Generous, Likeable You and was established to help raise money for leukaemia as every day 31 Australians are diagnosed with the disease.
“It costs $80 a night for accommodation for rural families to be going down to Melbourne in the leukaemia houses,” Ms Tuckey said.
Alexandra House raised a total of $5172.15 over six weeks which is equal to 64 nights of accommodation.
The Commercial Hotel and the Grand Central Hotel also participated and Hamilton reached a combined total of $9835 to donate to the Leukaemia Foundation.
“I did it two years ago and they came back again and asked if we wanted to do it so we jumped on board,” Ms Tuckey said.
To raise money, Ms Tuckey and other staff members at Alexandra House organised an online auction on Facebook.
