BAIMBRIDGE College student, Anna Mitchell is set for the trip of a lifetime during a year long Rotary exchange to Denmark.
Leaving on January, 18, Anna is taking part in a Rotary Youth Exchange through the Rotary Club of Hamilton as her mother, Fiona Mitchell, did when she was 17.
“Mum was an exchange student, she went to South Africa and she always told me about it so I knew a lot about it,” she said.
Anna said she was excited and nervous for the trip especially because she did not speak any Danish.
“Most people in Denmark speak English as a second language so I won’t be completely mute for the first few months,” she said.
Anna’s family recently hosted a Danish exchange student, Magnus Petersen, in their home for a few months.
“It was good to get perspective from someone in Denmark and he taught me a few things and a bit about the language … I know a few phrases like how to ask ‘can you help me?’ and ‘do you speak English?’,” she said.
Anna applied to become an exchange student at the start of this year and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Hamilton after an interview with its president.
She went to a briefing week in Halls Gap in May which was an introductory to the program.
