DUNKELD’S Community Centre project now has a nominated start and finish date for the $1.5 million expansion of the Dunkeld Community Hall.
The current plan is to break ground in mid-January next year and have the new building section complete by August, but these dates may be subject to change.
The project will see new sections added to the original hall and its 100-year-old interior while keeping the existing façade.
Community Centre Committee chair, Mary Ann Brown said she was “very excited to finally have a start date” after five years of fundraising.
“There are people who have been involved with this issue for even longer,” she said.
“We’ve had four Serra Terror fundraisers and we’re going for a fifth.
“The community has raised $300,000 and the Southern Grampians Shire State and Federal Governments have contributed $1,000,000.”
Mrs Brown said the total budget for the project will be between $1.5 and 1.6 million after Dunkeld QC and philanthropist, Allan Myers, chipped in his pledge to match community fundraising dollar-for-dollar.
Southern Grampians Shire Council selected a tender from ‘Searle Bros’ for the construction of the project at their last meeting.
