SOME things are worth celebrating twice – just ask Hamilton’s Else Green, who turned 100 on Saturday.
Else was the guest of honour on Friday at an afternoon tea organised by staff and residents at Eventide aged care home, where she has lived the past four years.
On Saturday it was the turn of close friends and family to help her celebrate 100 wonderful years.
About 60 guests travelled from their homes in Melbourne, Geelong and Portland to mark the occasion.
Else’s daughter, Heather Crofts said while her mum did not want a big fuss made of her milestone, she did enjoy both parties.
“She had a good day Saturday – she was a little bit overwhelmed,” Mrs Crofts said.
“She’s always been a very strong willed lady – very determined.”
Born in Warracknabeal on December 21, 1913, the 11th of 13 children, Else has called Hamilton home for the majority of her life, but also lived at Ararat and Yulecart.
She grew up on a farm and later married a farmer, Gary Habel.
