A CHRISTMAS tree in Laidlaw St, Hamilton is celebrating its 21st year of being decorated by the Ahearn family.
Ian Ahearn, the man who climbs up the tree every year and decorates it, said he did it for everybody not for himself.
“The look on the kids’ faces is priceless,” Mr Ahearn said.
“It makes everyone know it’s Christmas and it is for everybody, it is not just my tree it is everybody’s … but I am now expected to do it every year.”
Mr Ahearn said his family had decorated the tree ever since they moved into the house, from when it was 11.43 metres tall to now when it was 19.81m.
To celebrate the 21st year of decorating the tree there will be face painting, balloon art, lollies and one free gift for each child tonight on Christmas Eve.
Santa Claus will be sitting under the tree so kids can easily get a photo with him before he sets off to deliver all the presents.
