MELISSA Tapper has described her nomination by the International Table Tennis Federation for the 2013 ITTF Star Awards as a “huge honour.”
The 23-year-old, who calls Hamilton home when not pursuing her table tennis career on the world stage, is one of three nominations for the Para Female Table Tennis Star.
It is one of seven categories for the inaugural ITTF Star Awards to be showcased at the Raffles Hotel in Dubai on January 11.
Tapper’s nomination reinforces her status as a world star in both able bodied and para-table tennis.
She has not allowed Erbs Palsy (nerve damage in her right arm) to hinder her in the pursuit of table tennis excellence.
Among her many achievements to date, Tapper was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Paralympics.
“Yes, it’s a huge honour … something completely unexpected and being an international award is amazing to be amongst the other athletes is incredible,” she told The Spectator.
