CASTERTON Bowling Club’s ladies division one team had a stellar week last week, taking home the 2013 pennant flag.
After knocking the number one team out of the competition a week earlier, the ladies continued their march to victory with a finals win over Portland RSL.
The ladies say they were determined to win over the club, more than 10 times larger than their own, and that the Portland ladies didn’t stand a chance.
The scores were level during the lunch break but the Casterton ladies held onto their fighting spirit to win by six shots.
Faye Morrow’s team defeated Marion Husson’s 28-23 while Elva Luehman’s team held one for a one point victory, winning 22-21 over Betty Moon’s.
Nancy Sharam’s team, playing Jan DeZoete, fought back after a slow start to snatch a draw.
Mrs Morrow, who has been bowling for nearly 40 years, said she was “reasonably happy” with her bowls but commended the women for playing well as a team.
“We’d been in fourth position and just made the four but I felt we did lift our game for the finals,” she said.
The win is the icing on the cake of an excellent year for Mrs Morrow.
