THE generosity of the community put a smile on a young paperboy’s face this Christmas.
Ash Charman, 15, started his paper route two years ago as a way of making money to replace the mobile phone he lost when the family home burnt down.
Since then he has ridden his bike around North Hamilton from Alexandra Parade to North Boundary Rd three times a week delivering The Spectator.
Ash and his family have been amazed by the generosity of the community towards the paper delivery boys and girls.
This year many of those Ash delivers to left Christmas cards, cash and lollies as a thank you for his hard work during the year.
“Everyone is so generous and nice,” Ash said.
“My friend was doing it and I started going along with him.”
When the family’s home was destroyed by fire Ash lost his mobile phone.
His mum Melissa told him if he wanted another he would need to save and buy it himself.
He did and now his paper route, delivering up to 40 papers a night, pays for his phone credit.
