HAMILTON’S bus and rail services to Melbourne via Ballarat will run entirely by bus until January 19 next year because of track upgrades in Melbourne.
Buses will replace trains on the Ballarat, Bendigo and Sunbury lines while the State Government’s Regional Rail Link project construction takes place at Footscray Station.
Victorian Transport Minister, Terry Mulder said carrying out these activities during the quieter holiday period reduced future disruption for rail passengers.
“Patronage drops around 50 per cent during the Christmas and New Year’s break,” he said.
“As a result, we’re carrying out major works during the holiday period to improve Victoria’s rail network, so passengers return to better rail services.”
Mr Mulder said passengers should allow extra time for their journey and plan their travel in advance.
Trains will still run between Ballarat and Ararat, and Ballarat and Maryborough.
