A HAMILTON landlord may give up offering private rental agreements after his house in Branxholme was left in an uninhabitable state.
Daniel Cameron had to return early from his holiday in Apollo Bay after his tenants informed him that they were moving.
The tenants were already behind on the rent and Mr Cameron said he went to check the place himself on Boxing Day.
“I had seen the house in a mess before, and if that’s the way people want to live it’s none of my business, but I asked them to clean it up before they left,” he said.
“They’ve just taken some of their stuff and left a mess behind.
“It was a family with kids and it’s not good that they were living like that.”
The 100-year-old former doctor’s cottage in Branxholme had been left with a wildly overgrown front yard and a back yard filled with debris, garbage bags and piles of burnt refuse.
“I think they’ve just been storing up the rubbish rather than pay to take it to the tip,” Mr Cameron said.
