HUNDREDS of Greater Hamilton region families have ushered in the New Year at a family friendly street carnival in Gray Street.
An estimated 1500 people took advantage of a host of free entertainment, organised by the Rotary Club of Hamilton North, before making the short trek to Melville Oval for a fireworks spectacular.
Event co-ordinator, David Burows said the celebration was easily among the best since the club began organising the event in 1999.
“We were very happy with the crowd,” Mr Burows said.
“To see the happy faces and all the kids running around, it gives you a real lift and makes all the hours of planning worthwhile.
“The fireworks really topped the night off – they were absolutely magnificent.”
There was no shortage of entertainment for families, including free music, line dancing, giant slide, jumping castle, face painting and free giveaways.
