PORTLAND celebrated New Year’s Eve with a maximum of fun and a minimum of fuss, according to police.
Portland police Sergeant Ryan Nelson said Portland revellers were well behaved on the last night of 2013, with no arrests and only two infringement notices issued during the official foreshore celebrations, despite an extra-strong police presence.
“We had 18 officers out on the night, eight more than our normal roster,” Sgt Nelson said.
“There was an infringement notice issued to a 17-year-old Portland male for underage drinking at 1.20am and another issued for being drunk in a public place, but no arrests.”
Sgt Nelson said officers were highly visible, maintaining foot and road patrols in the afternoon and evening.
