THREE clubs will this weekend play each other in the annual Cogger Gurry HDCA T20 carnival with the winner going on to play in the Sungold T20 competition in Warrnambool.
As the nation is gripped by the “Big Bash”, the locals will be searching for their own “pot of gold” by winning their way through to the Warrnambool carnival that hands $15,000 to the overall victor.
Grampians, Byaduk and Southern Grampians are the only three clubs who nominated for the annual carnival.
St Mary’s had to pull out of the carnival late this week due to unforeseen circumstances and they have done so with the best wishes of the HDCA executive.
But the executive was at a loss for the failure of the other seven clubs, who are a part of the HDCA, for failing to nominate for this rich competition.
One reason could be the time of year that the carnival is held as many clubs have players who are away on holiday, but really this is no excuse as the clubs would have to field teams in normal home-and-away matches if the T20 carnival did not take place at this time.
