TWO hours and 19 minutes after the clock struck midnight ending 2013, the first baby for 2014 in the Hamilton region was born.
Jaxson Brougham-Lee Cross was brought into the world on Wednesday, January 1 at 2.19am at the Hamilton Base Hospital much to the delight of parents Erin Hutchins and Ben Cross, of Cavendish.
Weighing 3.95 kilograms, Jaxson is a brother to Mia, 6 and Tilly 2.
“We didn’t expect him then, I expected to go over (Ms Hutchins was due on January 1),” she said.
In what some would say was a relatively quick birth, Ms Hutchins waters broke at 8.30pm, was at the hospital at 9pm and the stronger pains started at 11pm.
Ms Hutchins said she was happy she had a New Year’s baby and it had been going well so far.
A name had not been chosen before the birth but on Wednesday night they decided on Jaxson.
