MY pre-season premiership favourites, St Andrew’s, remain in contention to carry off the Dundas Cup at the halfway point of the Bendigo Bank HDCA A grade competition as the team sits comfortably in fourth spot on the ladder.
St Andrew’s have always been a very competitive club at all levels, but this summer they have a very strong batting line-up that should ensure that the Drew’s are near to the top of the ladder come the March finals.
With the majority of the A grade squad having spent the Christmas break playing at the annual Willowfest in Mildura, they should hit the first match back after the resumption in form with the side finishing in second place in their section of the competition.
Matt Hill, David Heeps, Damien Logan and Jamie Logan all had good form with the bat, while the ageless Geoff Barker was perfect behind the stumps.
Barker has taken over the gloves from Tim Goodman in a move that has allowed the young wicketkeeper to be able to bowl as the attack needed bolstering due to a lack of penetration.
The young gloveman is the quickest bowler in the club and he sends down a heavy ball that gives the side a strike weapon that was sadly missing.
