PENSIONERS who’ve invested thousands of dollars into their caravan homes maybe forced to abandon them with the sale of the land from underneath them.
Permanent residents of the Henty Bay Beachfront Van and CabinPark, one of whom has lived there for 25 years, were informed last weekend that the lots they lease at the park are for sale.
Park owners Simms Corp have put 71 lots on the market to be leased for 250 years in perpetuity, including four permanent residents’ lots.
The residents’ properties will be replaced with new Jayco caravans and are being advertised between $80,000 and $180,000 each.
Bev Knowles moved to the park two months ago as an annual resident and says she entered the lease agreement under false pretences, not being told by the owners of their intention to sell, making the purchase of her $20,000 plus caravan worthless.
