THE Promoting Heywood and District Committee is urging Victoria Police to find a new police officer to occupy the town’s $500,000 police residence as a matter of urgency.
The house is currently vacant after Senior Constable Callum McKinnon transferred to Warrnambool late last year.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said on Wednesday that processes were underway to select a member to occupy the residence.
No time frame was given.
However, Promoting Heywood president Tom Ingram said it was crucial for safety in the town that the residence be occupied as soon as possible.
