SOUTH Portland junior cricketer Bethany Bates is excited about her week ahead with the Western Waves.
The right handed all-rounder will line up for the pathway cricket squad for the second time in Melbourne next week and after a season of playing with Portland women’s A grade side and South under-16 boys side the teenager is looking forward to a rare opportunity to play with girls her own age.
“With the Portland women you have only got 16 overs to play, and you don’t get your shot much, because your older, more experienced players go at the top, so with the women’s because we have been so strong you don’t really get much of a chance,” Bates said.
“With the Western Waves it is a lot more fun because you are playing with girls your own age and you all get your chance.”
