THE 2014 Matthews Petroleum Hamilton Pacing Cup promises to be a great event with local runner Cheap Tint facing some very stiff opposition from a strong and experienced field.
Punters looking for a winner tomorrow afternoon will have to dig deep into the form guide to find which of the runners have performed strongly from the standing start.
One runner in the 12 strong field is the Ballarat trained Savesomtimetodream, to be driven by Jodi Quinlan, who is a very experienced reinswoman.
This season the combination has taken out the Yarra Valley Cup and the Gunbower Cup in successive races over the longer distance of 2600 metres.
His last race was at Ballarat, but punters should dismiss this effort as it was over the shorter 1609 metre distance and they ran a record for the race that was taken out by Smoken Up.
He will start from the outside of the 10 metre mark which should not be too bad providing he gets away for the stand, which he has had no difficulty in the past.
Keayang Cullen will start from the inside of the 10 metre mark and is trained by one of the in-form trainers at the moment in Margaret Lee and the stable was able to take out the Horsham Cup last week with Keayang Steamer.
They will be hoping to repeat the performance with this gelding by Christian Cullen.
Driven by Glen Craven, he was a starter in last year’s Interdominion Championship, but has had only three starts since that race.
However, his form has been rapidly improving since.
After a fourth, three starts back, he then followed up with a third and last start run second to Bitobliss in last week’s Free For All at Melton.
The only concern is the stand start as this will be his first try in such an event, but is a class horse and will run a top race.
