THE Portland Croquet Club held its annual competition last week which was greeted with a strong and healthy competition across the four days of play at the Portland Botanical Gardens.
Thirty competitors emerged from all parts of the country to participate in the event, which was considered a success according to Club President Val Hogan.
“Well it was successful; the weather wasn’t terribly helpful the first couple of days but after that it was fine,” Hogan said.
“They play on regardless, it’s a fairly full on schedule because the games start at 8.00am and each game is two and a half hours for the first and second event and two hours for the third and fourth before they have a break”.
