LEIGH Hein has won the sailing national championships after he was victorious in the Taipan Catamaran division at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron in Brisbane at the beginning of this year. Hein continued his long and decorated association with the sport when he dominated the competition to convincingly and comprehensively win the event and elevate himself to the national champion in his chosen class. The competition involved ten races over five days to determine the winner which got off to a shaky start after Hein capsized on the first day. “The first race I went out and it was quite breezy and I actually capsized and ended up finishing sixth so it wasn’t an ideal start” Hein said.
