DESPITE searing heat the Portland and District Cricket Association under-13 Country Week carnival has been hailed as a roaring success, with positive feedback coming from both the many visiting teams as well as Cricket Victoria officials. Ten associations sent 14 teams to compete at the carnival in Portland early this week, with Warrnambool District Cricket Association showing its strength by having both of its sides play off in the final at HentyPark on Wednesday afternoon, with Warrnambool Gold triumphing over the previously unbeaten Blue side in a thrilling final over. But the big winner for the week was the PDCA, who proved once again it can host an exceptional carnival to assist in the development of the game. “All of the feedback I have got, and it has come from both the associations and Westerns Waves as well, is that it has been run really well, with some even saying excellently,” PDCA under-13 coordinator and former president Clarkston Ray said at the completion of the event.
