Race 1 – Bendigo Bank Trotters Handicap
IN the first race on the card there were two main chances in the betting with the eventual winner Idle Suntime starting in the ring at $2.30 favourite with the Peter Manning chance Hackashaq firmed into $3 and the only other runner under the $10 odds was Whathappensinvegus.
This was a distance of 2160 metres for the trotters and a standing start. Once the tapes were let go Keepthedream began well, the favourite was well away but near the tail of the field from the 30 metre mark and the other chance, Hackashaq, began well, but was racing at the rear of the field out from the pegs. With a lap to go it was Keepthedream on the inside leading Lovable Nick, who was facing the breeze, but both were keeping the pace on in the race.
Lovable Nick took the lead at the 600 metre mark, but moves were coming from Hackashaq and Idle Suntime, who were now placed three wide in the run. Turning the corner for the run to the judge, it was Lovable Nick on the inside of Ollie Nova, who got a break through the field to be second and out wide it was Hackashaq three wide, the favourite was pushed four wide but racing well.
In the run home Idle Suntime was far too good and won from Hackashaq in second place with Candy Digger getting a good run to take out third dividend.
Race 2 – Hamilton Spectator Pace
KEAYANG Starzzz was the unbackable favourite at $1.10 with the Kevin Brough gelding Amberlu Angus the next best in the ring at $8.90.
Once the gates opened Keayang Starzzz had one thing on his mind with driver Jason Lee heading straight to the front. They passed the judge the first time and it was the favourite in front with Amberlu Angus sitting on the leader’s back and Alta Antonio facing the breeze.
There was no change passing the judge a lap out and Jason Lee (Keayang Starzzz) was dictating the terms in front, and even at this stage looked a winner. Turning for home the favourite had opened up a lead in front, Amberlu Angus was running on in second place and Alta Antonio ran third.
But the winner was far too good and will be another to keep in the black book from the Margaret Lee stable. He ran 1.56.2 for the mile rate, but only ran 60.6 for the first half of the mile, coming home in 55.5.
Race 3 – Grand Central Hotel Vicbred Platinum Mares Sprint Championship (10th heat)
THE Peter Manning runner, Additallup, dominated the betting ring when he started at $1.90. The Matthew Craven runner, Satisfied, was the next best at $3.20 with some money for Ithappenstbeametro at $6.70 and White Eyed Girl at $9.10.
After leaving the mobile White Eyed Girl, for Jayson Finnis, was very keen to lead in front. The favourite Additallup sat outside facing the breeze and Satisfied, by the time they entered the straight, was one lap out, second last.
