WHILE the Glenelg Shire escaped relatively harm-free from fires late last week, fire fighting crews from across the district have been sent to assist with major bushfires in the Grampians and South Australia.
CFA District 4 operations manager Peter Novotny said Region 4 incident managers had been sent to help organise firefighting operations in the northern Grampians and, from Thursday night, strike teams of Region 4 firefighters were being regularly sent to Laharum, south of Horsham.
“Crews are still helping at the Grampians, crews from throughout the Glenelg Shire are being sent up for day and night shifts,” Mr Novotny said yesterday.
He said a crew from Cashmore along with one of its tankers were sent to the Barossa Valley in South Australia to assist. Mr Novotny said a mobile communications van from District 4 was also sent to South Australia.
