MORE than 100 firefighters from Hamilton’s fire district will soon be deployed at fires in the northern Grampians and South Australia as the local region has suffered fewer fire incidents.
CFA District 5 coordination centre manager, Malcolm Anderson said local firefighters had been sent on “multiple day” deployments to help battle the bushfires that have wiped out homes, farms and livestock.
“District 5 crews are currently in South Australia and deployed on day shifts in Loxton and Lameroo,” he said.
“They are actively helping the SA Country Fire Service.
“Two strike teams and a total of about 50 members from across District 5 are in the northern Grampians.”
The CFA’s District 5 has its headquarters in Hamilton but its borders stretch from North of Balmoral to east of Warrnambool.
Southern Grampians had a number of small bushfire incidents over the five days of 40°C, but the main Victorian incidents were in the northern areas between Wartook and Stawell.
