FOR many people in Portland, Peter’s Project doesn’t mean anything. But in a few years time when dozens of Portland people are receiving life saving radiotherapy at the integrated cancer centre in Warrnambool, they will be thankful of those behind Peter’s Project.
Warrnambool’s Vicki Jellie lost her husband Peter more than five years ago after a 20 week fight against oesophageal cancer.
During those 20 weeks, Peter spent eight weeks of that time receiving radiotherapy treatment in Melbourne which lasted just 15 minutes each day.
Mrs Jellie said the treatment in Melbourne meant he spent precious time away from his family and friends, a scenario which was typical for regional cancer patients.
