PORTLAND micro sprint driver West Makin beat a star studded field in Gatton, Queensland, to win his maiden Australian Micro Sprints Title on Saturday.
Makin snuck under the guard of many of the other drivers after putting in a frustrating run at the New South Wales State Titles earlier in the season in which he finished third, however after getting his setup right was one of the standout drivers all night in Queensland.
While he has only been driving in the sport for four seasons, Makin went into the Nationals as the current Victorian champion and after finishing second at last year’s National event was keen to go one better on Saturday.
“I wasn’t that confident, because there were a lot of quick cars there, but it was definitely my goal to try and win it,” Makin said.
