THE Allan Clark trained Happy Valentine delivered an early present for her owners with a strong win on debut at Hamilton last Friday.
Ridden by Holly McKechnie, the mare raced handy, before lengthening in the straight and going on to win by over a length in the Star Printing Maiden Plate over 1200m.
Having always shown ability on the track, the 4-Y-O by Musee D’Orsay, did test Clark’s patience leading up to last week’s win.
“It’s a relief for sure, I nearly raced her last preparation, but we decided to wait. I was starting to question my decision, as this time in we have had a few worries getting her to the races,” he said.
“I actually sent out an email to all the owners saying I hope we can get her to the races before Valentine’s Day.
“But it’s worked out well, and I couldn’t be happier for her breeder Greg Daffey and his brother Paul and the family and friends that race her, they are all here which is great.”
Daffey is the manager of Claremont Stud at Balmoral.
