TWO dedicated and hard working Balmoral community members have made the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) honours list.
Christina Hindhaugh and William Falkenberg were both awarded for their dedication to their local community and the industries they are passionate about.
Mrs Hindhaugh was awarded an OAM for her service to the community of Balmoral and to women in agriculture.
She said she wanted to dedicate the award to women in agriculture as “rural women are the backbone of this nation”.
Mrs Hindhaugh said rural women kept small communities running and was glad they were finally getting the recognition they deserved.
“I have talked to women on farms, many weren’t recognised … the media display them as only baking scones but all that has changed now,” she said.
“There are many vibrant young farming women, a lot are going through university, I’m very proud of that.”
