THE Dunkeld Museum will hold their first guest speaker meeting for 2014 at the Dunkeld Sawmill on Monday.
The meeting will take the form of a guided tour through the historical A.T. Fitzpatrick and Sons’ Sawmill with members of the Dunkeld and District Sawmill Restoration Group leading the way.
Fitzpatrick’s Sawmill, located in the Dunkeld Arboretum, was established in this location in 1943.
Sawmillers led a typically itinerant existence in remote places getting and sawing hardwood when mills were powered by steam engines.
Patrick Fitzpatrick founded the business and his son Arthur Thomas oversaw the move of the mill to a more permanent site in Dunkeld which proved to be successful because of the post World War II building boom.
