THE iconic Portland All Saints Catholic Church has finally had its ageing spire replaced, with workers from GR Carr Building Contractors and Keppel Prince’s crane division removing the old spire and positioning the new one on Friday.
After previous delays due to rain and wind, Friday’s beautiful weather opened the door for the long-awaited replacement operation, and the switch-over was completed in a matter of hours.
The spire’s construction plans started in December 2012 with PM Design Group in Portland in charge of the design of the new spire.
Friday’s activity drew a big crowd from a number of vantage points, with some spectators staying through the day to track the progress.
