HELLBOUND, Cold Stone and Ruthless were among the beasts looking for blood at the Dartmoor Rodeo on Saturday, where a crowd of more than 2000 watched on with bated breath.
The weekend’s extreme heat and events in other parts of the district meant numbers were slightly down, but organisers tagged the event a “great success”.
The rodeo raises money for the Dartmoor Football and Netball Club, with this year’s takings expected to total more than $30,000.
Football manager, Ron Whennan said the annual event was crucial to the club’s survival.
“We’re in the middle of nowhere and it’s very hard for us to get players, so (money raised) goes toward buying them in,” he said.
“If you like rodeos it’s quite good but even if you don’t, everyone helps out and then stays on for the band.
“My daughter left at about 4.30am, so it was obviously a pretty good night.”
Woodall Rodeo Promotions runs about 30 rodeos every year, but Dartmoor’s is the closest to the family’s home and heart.
